OACP further training

The certificate of competence must be renewed every five years through mandatory further training.

Total duration

The holder of a certificate of competence for passenger transport, goods transport, or both, must prove attendance of 35 hours of further training to obtain its extension.

Course structure

Further training can be taken as a one-week course or as several separate courses. Each separate course lasts at least seven hours, excluding breaks, and can be spread over a maximum of two consecutive days.

For a seven-hour separate course, a maximum of three hours may be offered as an online learning module. No more than five days may elapse between this online module and the in-person instruction.

Deadline

Further training must be completed within the five years preceding the expiry of the certificate of competence's validity, at a further training centre approved by the canton where it is based.

In case of delay

If the further training could not be completed on time, the competent authority may, upon written request, extend the certificate of competence by a maximum of one month. If validity has already expired, a complete further training course (35 hours) taken within the previous five years allows the certificate to be extended.

Training completed abroad

Certificates of further training completed abroad are recognised as equivalent if the training was completed in whole or in part while employed by a company established abroad, or if the course organiser is approved as a provider in a member state of the European Union or the European Free Trade Association.

For initial requirements and renewal, see the certificate of professional competence and the professional driver qualification guide.
