Not all learning drives with a learner licence require an accompanying driver.

What is a learning drive?

A learning drive is any drive made in a motor vehicle whose driver holds only a learner licence.

Which categories may drive without an accompanying driver?

The learner licence for category A, sub-categories A1 and B1, and special category F entitles the holder to make learning drives without being accompanied.

Which categories require an accompanying driver?

For all other categories (notably B, C, D and their combinations with a trailer), learning drives must be made with an accompanying driver who meets the legal requirements.

Carrying passengers is prohibited during learning drives with category D or sub-category D1 vehicles, except for the accompanying driver, the driving instructor, the traffic expert, and other learner drivers. Any professional carriage of passengers is excluded during learning drives.
