Accompanying driver for learner drivers
The law sets precise requirements for the person who accompanies a learner driver.
Legal requirements
Learning drives in a motor vehicle may only be undertaken if the learner is accompanied by a person who:
- is at least 23 years old;
- has held, for at least three years, a driving licence corresponding to the category of the vehicle used;
- and no longer holds a probationary licence themselves.
Responsibility of the accompanying driver
The person accompanying a learner driver must ensure that the drive is carried out safely and that the learner does not breach traffic regulations.
What about professionally given lessons?
Anyone who gives driving lessons professionally must hold an authorisation to teach driving (driving instructor licence).
