Trailer licence in Switzerland: BE and B1
Two categories concern trailers and small light vehicles in Switzerland.
When is the B licence enough for a trailer?
The B licence already authorises driving a combination of a category B vehicle and a trailer as long as the trailer does not exceed 750 kg, or a heavier trailer provided the total weight of the combination does not exceed 3500 kg. See the car driving licence page.
Category BE: from age 17
Beyond these limits, a combination of a category B towing vehicle and a trailer requires category BE. The minimum age is 17, as for category B.
Sub-category B1: from age 18
Sub-category B1 covers motor tricycles with an unladen weight not exceeding 670 kg, as well as motor quadricycles. The minimum age is 18.
The B1 licence also authorises driving special categories F, G and M.
