Failed the practical driving test

The number of failed attempts at the practical test determines the steps to retake it.

After one or two failed attempts

Anyone who fails the practical test once or twice may retake it. After a second failure, a new test may only take place if the driving instructor confirms that the candidate's training is complete.

After three failed attempts

The learner licence expires when its holder has failed the driving test three times in a row and the competent authority, on the basis of a test, denies their fitness to drive.

A new practical test can then only take place following a favourable fitness-to-drive test.

Is a new learner licence required?

If the learner licence has expired, a new application must be submitted. A new application requires retaking the basic theory test.
