Road safety course

Formerly known as the road safety course, this course now officially carries the name "road traffic theory course".

Which categories require it?

Anyone wishing to obtain a category A or B driving licence, or sub-category A1 or B1, must prove that they have taken the road traffic theory course.

Attendance at the course presupposes that the candidate already holds a learner licence. People who already hold a licence in one of these categories or sub-categories are exempt.

Duration and objectives

The course lasts eight hours in total and must be taken with a driving instructor.

It aims in particular to develop traffic awareness and the ability to perceive hazards, so as to lead the learner driver to drive defensively, with consideration for others and a sense of responsibility.

Certificate

The driving instructor must issue the learner driver with a certificate confirming their attendance at the road traffic theory course.
