What age do you need to ride a kick scooter or an electric kick scooter?
No legal minimum age for a non-motorised kick scooter, treated as a means of locomotion propelled solely by muscular force. For an electric kick scooter, the special category M licence is required from age 14 to 15, after which no licence is needed from age 16.
Non-motorised kick scooter: no licence, no minimum age
A foot-propelled kick scooter (a "vehicle-like device") is used without a licence, at any age: its user follows the traffic rules applicable to pedestrians. In practice, use of the pavement is reserved for the youngest children, beyond which the roadway or cycle paths apply, as for a cyclist.
Electric kick scooter: category M licence from 14 to 15
An electric kick scooter whose motor power does not exceed 0.50 kW and whose assisted speed does not exceed 20 km/h is ridden with the special category M licence between ages 14 and 15.
