What age do you need to get a car licence (B) in Switzerland?

17 completed years to apply for the learner licence and obtain the category B (car) licence. An exception allows access from age 17 as part of certain vocational training programmes.

People following one of the training programmes "Heavy vehicle driver" (federal VET diploma), "Automotive maintenance mechanic" (federal VET diploma, commercial vehicles track) or "Automotive mechatronics technician" (federal VET diploma, commercial vehicles track), or "Light vehicle driver" (federal VET certificate), may sit the category B driving test at the earliest six months before turning 18 - the licence being issued only once they have turned 18, and driving before that age having to be accompanied.
