From what age is a medical check mandatory for driving?

From age 75. Holders of a driving licence aged 75 or over must undergo a medical check every two years, carried out by a medical examiner specialising in traffic medicine.

A periodic check, not an automatic withdrawal

This medical check, paid for by the person concerned, covers in particular visual acuity and the ability to react and concentrate. It does not automatically withdraw the licence: it verifies that the holder remains fit to drive, as at any age when there is doubt about fitness to drive.

The TCS publishes advice for senior drivers: avoiding peak hours and night driving, planning long journeys carefully, and enrolling in a refresher driving course if needed.
